The princess gave birth at The hospital Danderyds Sjukhus north of the Swedish capital at 1.45 local time.
‘Mother and child are both doing well’, the Palace’s spokesperson Margareta Thorgren told Expressen Monday afternoon.
The palace confirmed the media will be invited to a press conference later today.
‘A member of the family will be present, but I believe there is also an interest to hear the doctors’, Thorgren said.
The newborn is the younger brother of princess Leonore, who was born in New York in February 2014. This time the family chose to welcome their new member in princess Madeleines native Sweden.
33-year-old Princess Madeleine and her husband, American-British businessman Christopher O’Neill, 40, left New York earlier this year to relocate to Europe. In May it was confirmed the entire family will move to London later this year.
The birth announcement came just two days after the Swedish prince Carl Philip married his wife Sofia Hellqvist in a ceremony in the palace in Stockholm.
The new prince will become sixth in line to the throne after crown princess Victoria, her daughter princess Estelle, prince Carl Philip, princess Madeleine and princess Leonore.
